A R Manley shortlisted for prestigious national woodworking award
Once again, A R Manley and Son has been shortlisted for the annual British Woodworking Federation (BWF) Awards. The BWF Awards celebrate the skills, creativity and dedication demonstrated by companies and individuals across the woodworking and joinery manufacturing industry over the last 12 months. This year, A R Manley has been shortlisted in the ‘Woodworking Project of the Year’ category for the significant manufacture and delivery of windows, external door sets and shutters to accurately replicate an authentic Georgian property.
The Project
To date, we have manufactured and delivered 45 sliding sash windows, 1 bullseye window, 5 dormer windows, 10 external door sets, plus fixed and opening shutters for the majority of windows and all doors. This project represents one of the most substantial commissions our small joinery business has undertaken, and we are immensely proud of the work completed so far.
Every sash window features two traditionally sliding sashes fitted with Antique Brass ironmongery. The sections were kept deliberately slim to replicate authentic Georgian proportions. To enhance historical accuracy, each sash was glazed with individual panes using slimline, low‑iron double glazing with narrow margin spacer bars and no coatings. The boxes and lights were finished in heritage colours: Farrow and Ball 'Old White' on the outside, 'New White' on the inside.
The casement windows and external doors were crafted in the same way, with the same glazing, two-tone decoration, and traditional ironmongery. All external joinery was manufactured in Accoya - while the designs echo the craftsmanship of the past, the materials will endure for decades to come.
This project has allowed us to demonstrate the full breadth of our traditional joinery expertise, and we are honoured to contribute to a home that celebrates Georgian architecture with such precision and respect.
